Listen, can you hear it? Deep within the mountains of Beijing lays a dark and gloomy path filled with treacherous obstacles and ancient secrets. As you make your way through the dark enclosure of the forest you begin to hear a soft and angelic voice calling you ahead enticing you to move deeper into the maze of trees and vines. The voice continues to call you as you then feel as if you are floating as the music of the forest begins to carry you along the path. You begin to forget who you are or where you came from. Your quest to find an ancient treasure is long behind you and now you are fixated upon the feeling of release that is guiding you. All of the pain and suffering from your life has been discarded and the warm embrace of nature now comforts you like a river of dreams. You close your eyes and allow yourself to be fully immersed in your new existence.
Then suddenly you open your eyes to see a beam of light emerging from a hole on the side of a giant and vast mountain side. You feel yourself floating closer to the beam of light as you see the mist of the forest sparkle within the glow. You then look around your surroundings and see a rainbow emerging from a nearby waterfall as majestic birds emerge from the trees. Beams of sunlight begin to emerge from above through the forest ceiling as you focus back onto the light bursting from the side of the mountain wall.
You stand up on your feet and walk towards the wall and crouch down with the beam at eye level. You take a deep breath and peer into the hole to find the thing you have been looking for your entire life. The thing that you have always known you have been missing but could never put into words. You find the thing to finally fill the empty void that has existed within your soul your entire life. You find a thing of Glory………a delicious and cold beer and a chilled glass to pour it into.
About the running and walking trail:
Running trail – appx 10km, elevation gain around 600m
Walking trail – appx 6.5km, elevation gain around 300m
It all goes down in Mentougou. You’re to expect some raw and shiggy(bushy) road. Strongly suggest covering up your skin with long shirts/pants/gloves/hats. Hiking boots highly recommended. Both trails are challenging, not suitable for Acrophobia (fear of heights), but there’s a nice tourist route you can explore by yourself without hares.

The Beijing boxer hash is an off-road running hash going out to the hills around Beijing once/twice a month. We usually aim for the second/third Saturday of each month, but may vary depending on the hares’ availability and other variable factors we have zero control over. Be prepared for variable weather conditions: snow, ice, heatwave, storms.
We’re a running hash. It’s ok to walk but not to lallygag. Keep moving… Heart attacks are not permitted. As we are out on mountain trails, it’s easy to get lost. Please bring a phone with you! We may or may not send a search party looking for you. If we do, chances are it will consist primarily of rabid dogs and hungry wolves. That being said, we are glad to have you join us and hope you enjoy a great day! (by the way, no you won’t be back for your important dinner date bring them along instead)
