The run will start from the 47-year-old Pearl Market, one of Beijing’s oldest wholesale markets, where foreign tourists used to be transported to by the busloads to buy pearl jewellery and other treasured items.
Hashrumour has it, the legendary actor Nicolas Cage and the (less legendary) former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher even visited and got themselves pearl necklaces there…
The expertly laid trail by our shitty Full Moon hares will take you through the historic former Chongwen district, passing by temples, mosques & churches, through quaint hutong neighbourhoods, and finishing under the moonlit gaze of the last remnants of the Ming city walls.
The Pearl Market is just east of the Temple of Heaven built in 1420 by the Yongle Emperor. The Temple of Heaven is where emperors came for centuries to pray for good harvests. And good harvests = good beer!
The shitty hares have prepared special printed tourist maps to take you on this whirlwind tour through the former Chongwen district. Use them along with marks to find your way around historic sights and neighbourhoods, all the while taking in centuries of history. No need for a Lonely Planet guide book!
Aaaas we know (as we know!), the Full Moon in October is known as the Hunter’s Moon as it is particularly bright and long in the sky, giving hunters the opportunity to stalk prey at night. Embrace your inner lupine werewolf and stalk the hares through the moonlit hutongs of Beijing!
