Many moons ago on one October day in Beijing, China didn’t change forever. The spirit of a servant to the demigod Kublai Khan, spawn of Genghis Khan and Leader of the Golden Horde, still roams the earth. He seeks free beer.
This tale is in no history book, but survives through tradition.
A foreign courtesan well celebrated in her day, Reugnot Ssa, entertained the cooked Tianjin official Bojwolb on a luxuriant barge through the Grand Canal. The barge was laden with intoxicating liquids and treasures for what the appetites of only the most corrupt could hunger.
But one man was out for the spoils! The notorious Bandit Nai Tsuj. Just at dawn he lay in waiting with his gang as the barge reached the narrows of the canal. In moments, Reugnot Ssa and Bojwolb were captured and their entire entourage incapacitated.
In all of this, an unknown blind er hu begger, Bor Tsuj, was caught in the scramble as he took his morning piss. He poked the eye of a mule sparking an unexplainable chain of events where every last drop of intoxicating liquid flowed into a nearby well and a pig-pen caught fire. The entire neighborhood sang and partied until dawn the next day.
This day is celebrated by drinking beer and having a feast on October 16 in Yuan Da Du Park! Will there be bandits? Will there be court intrigue? What about blind er hu? On on!
