Bike Hash#21 STARSHIP RIDE

When / 时间: Tuesday 25th March 2025
Meet up / 时间: 18:15 for a 18:30 start.
At / 在: Gulou East 711 next to The Factory.

All bikes welcome. 所有种类的自行车都可以。
Bring a charged phone to help not get lost.

The Bike Hash wants to combine the idea of a typical running hash with cycling. In a normal hash, there are runners and walkers with everyone meeting up in intervals to have a beer and a chat. There have been numerous formats of bike hashes that have tried to make this work however each have fallen short of certain criteria.
Having just a group ride was a little slow for people on their expensive road bikes sharing the same pace as someone just chilling with the vibe on their share bike.
Giving the fast riders a scavenger hunt was good but didn’t quite hit the nail on the head with both groups not really seeing each other apart from the beginning and the end.
The “Starship” format hopes to tick all the boxes.

So, there’s ABCDE which are all basically a convenience store where people can buy beer, water or a snack. How you want to get between each of those points is fully up to you. The hare will post the pins of these locations as they are the most important. There will be a group ride between those points which will only go as fast as the slowest moving part. They get there when they get there…
Before they set off, the hare will announce a suggested checkpoint or “mission” if you will for the riders up for a bit more of a challenge. They are welcome to ride off into the distance solo or team up. It’s not a race, however the checkpoint is meant to be set at a difficulty where the group riders and the fast riders meet at the next beer stop around the same time.
You don’t have to do only 1 route. You don’t have to do the checkpoint if you have an idea of your own. You don’t necessarily have to meet us at every beer stop. Do what you will with the information given to you and have a good time.
Here are some examples of the types of riders that are expected and encouraged to show up.

There is a whole community and clothing brand based on people who take pride in being part of the Slow Squad. They leave no person behind and are at the back of group rides around the world, playing music, doing tricks, having a laugh and fixing punctures. You don’t need to ride fast to be cool.

The Pro accepts any challenge they are met with and completes them with time to spare. They either have their own trusty steed that overtakes scooters from time to time or they are an absolute “cyclepath” on a share bike looking for an insane cardio workout.

These riders don’t make any plans. They take it as it comes. One minute they feel like going on a tear through the city, the next minute they just feel like hanging out or catching their breath. Perhaps if the group ride has any sense of direction, then the hare might let their hair down for a few fast rides.

The Free Spirit might say things like: “You know what, this checkpoint is not my cup of tea.” … “I’m a strong independent cyclist.” … “I have a few errands to run.” … “I’ll just see you guys at the next stop.”
Some people prefer to take the road less travelled upon.

You are not there at all.

• If you’re riding your own bike, don’t forget a small repair kit / 如果您骑的是自己的自行车,别忘了带一个小修理包
• Consider wearing a helmet / 考虑戴头盔
• Consider (but not too seriously) not drinking beer on-trail / 考虑(但不要太认真)不要在路上喝啤酒

Beijing! Beijing! What wonderful place to hash…
Beijing, Beijing, what a wonderful place to hash,
We have great fun dodging the shit and trash.
Our skies are never clear,
But we have cheaper beer.
We like our drinks,
Our singing stinks.
But welcome to the Beijing Hash!

The hares for this week will lead you to celebrate our 1969 run past the sites of many debaucherous deeds this northern capital has seen over the years. BJ H3 #1954: Thirteen Bridges Run (see if you can count them)
This weekend join us as we run through Tucheng, once the prowling ground of our erstwhile member LickItToRide. Back in the day, rebels raiding Beijing from the north would have to cross the canal here, only to be met with a hail of missiles from the rampart on the southern side. So watch out! After exiting the park we will [...]
